Who's behind Groupsite.com

In addition to our amazing user community and the many Groupsite Champions whose steady stream of feedback helps continually shape the platform, there's a hard-working team behind Groupsite.com.

Founded in 2006, Groupsite.com (formerly CollectiveX) has grown to a network of 30,000+ Groupsites. The efforts of a small team of passionate strategists, developers, designers, support staff and other individuals have made this growth possible. We recognize the power of social collaboration, therefore we work in the open community and encourage feedback from our users.

Although we are headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, we embrace the virtual workplace. So if you're interested in joining us, regardless of your location, we're always looking for talented people. Be sure to check out our Careers page.

The Management Team

Clarence Wooten, Jr., Founder & CEO

Coined a "serial entrepreneur" by Entrepreneur Magazine in February 2000, Clarence has launched and operated numerous technology-based companies since founding his first, Envision Designs, while an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University. In 1993, Clarence co-founded Metamorphosis Studios, an interactive multimedia development firm, where he served as CEO and Creative Director until early 1998 when the company was acquired by MediSolv, Inc. Immediately following the acquisition, at the height of the dot-com boom, Clarence co-founded and served as CEO of ImageCafe.com. Touted as the Internet's first online superstore of customizable websites-to-go, ImageCafe was acquired for $23 million by Network Solutions/Verisign in November 1999, just seven months after it launched. Just prior to founding Groupsite.com, Clarence co-founded and served as General Partner at Venturepreneur Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm. Clarence has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Forbes ASAP, Entrepreneur and CNNfn, and his entrepreneurial experiences are also the subject of a Babson College case study.

Clarence has a B.S. in Business Management from John Hopkins University and currently serves on the Deans Alumni Advisory Board for its Carey Business School. He is an avid supporter of the community and serves on many non-profit boards. In his personal time, Clarence enjoys playing with his daughters, spending time with family and close friends, and attending Maryland Terps basketball games. In each of his entrepreneurial endeavors, Clarence has been focused on user experience design, which served as the catalyst behind the development of the Groupsite platform.
